BOTOX® Cosmetic

Restylane®
Made in Sweden and now available to our San Diego patients, Restylane® offers a safe, very effective, nonallergenic way to fill facial lines and wrinkles. In addition, Restylane® offers a newer way to achieve lip enhancement and other facial sculpting without collagen. As the skin ages, the natural underlying tissues begin to break down and the support they provided lessens. As a result, the skin begins to show lines and wrinkles. Restylane® can replace natural tissue that has diminished and fill in lines and wrinkles for a smooth, youthful appearance.
In the treatment, Dr. Wheeler injects Restylane® under the skin to fill lines and wrinkles or even to sculpt lips and cheeks. Restylane® is made of hyaluronic acid, a biodegradable substance that occurs naturally in all living beings. Restylane® is FDA approved for use as a dermal filler, and because it is non-animal based, no allergy testing is required before treatment.

As skin ages and is exposed to environmental elements, the natural collagen that lies just beneath the skin depletes, causing wrinkles and lines to appear in the outer skin. Cosmoderm™ and Cosmoplast™ injection treatments can replace that natural collagen.

Zyderm® and Zyplast®
With more than 1.5 million patients worldwide who have received treatment, Zyderm® and Zyplast® remain the most widely used injectable substances for treating lines and wrinkles. Both are made of highly purified bovine collagen. Like Restylane® and other dermal fillers, Zyderm® and Zyplast® can lift and smooth the deeper wrinkles and lines on the face that BOTOX® Cosmetic cannot treat as effectively. They can define lip contour and erase the vertical lines so prone to lipstick bleeding. Additionally, both can be used to smooth lines on the neck and to treat acne and other scars.
Zyderm® and Zyplast® are made from collagen taken from cattle raised in a USDA-certified closed herd. A "closed herd" means that a veterinarian monitors, documents, and tests the cattle to ensure they are completely disease free.
